Melbourne Bike Share is a dud : Helmet laws to blame

A comparison today of bike share in 12 cities across the globe by Copenhagenize indicates that the Melbourne bike share program is achieving a very low level of utilisation (.7% in use at peak) when compared to the other cities.

The Melbourne system is using exactly the same technology as London the very successful “Boris Bike” system.

The obvious factor is that Melbourne is the only one of the 12 that has compulsory helmet laws.
